When to travel to Southeast Asia and what tips to keep in mind

Are you going to travel to Southeast Asia? Discovering the tropical paradise of the Philippines, Indonesia with its hundreds of islands, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and other countries is a practice accessible to all. And let’s face it, the travel bloggers and digital nomads who live in Bali have given us a lot of envy. However, the tropical climate makes it an area susceptible to tornadoes, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions and of course monsoons. Here we give you the tips to know better when to travel to Southeast Asia and which countries are better at each time of the year. Do not miss our advices traveler.

Which countries form Southeast Asia

To begin with, these 11 countries are considered Southeast Asia: Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Timor-Leste and Brunei.

Although we all know that Asia is a huge continent, we tend to believe that Southeast Asia is a small part accessible to see in a single trip. But in reality, it has a larger dimension than Europe. Therefore we recommend that if you want to travel to Southeast Asia, be realistic. If you only go two or three weeks it is better to focus on two countries and enjoy them well than trying to cover everything. Tips for traveling to Southeast Asia

All travelers agree that traveling to Southeast Asia is very safe. However, we are foreigners in a very different culture, so we should take some considerations before traveling.

Always carry a safety app if you travel to Southeast Asia. Remember that we are in a foreign and many times also chaotic country, and that getting lost is super easy. Many streets have no name and they all seem alike. Use Wave in your Southeast Asian adventure to share your location in real time with your friends. Besides being able to find you if the tide of people disperses you, it enables you to set a meeting point on the shared map.

This is especially important if you happen to be when an earthquake or a flood arrives so you can find your friends and be found by them in real time. To get there or to reach any of our friends, we can use Wave’s GPS navigator or call an Uber. Wave also has a chat and it is possible that your friends already have the app, because it has more than 11 million users around the world.

In addition to Wave, download currency conversion apps, transport apps like Uber, language translation and weather forecasts.

Traffic in Southeast Asia

Another interesting point to comment before traveling to Southeast Asia is traffic. In big cities like Bangkok or Hanoi the motorcycle is the main way of transport. Literally, we can say that there are thousands of them on the streets. Crossing the streets is not always easy because there are almost no pedestrian paths. What tourists do is wait in the street until a group of people gathers to cross and then move forward together with determination. The bikes will dodge us without problem and we can cross safely, although at the beginning we may be afraid.

Southeast Asia transportation

As we have seen, motorcycles are a very easy way to get around the city. It is important to always have an international driver’s license and carry insurance. Before renting a vehicle, we must check the status with the owner to avoid problems later. We have also seen the occasion of having to pay some fines to the police because of the lack of a document that we did not know. Or that does not exist, anyway. That is why we recommend carrying cash always.

Another way to get around is by collective buses, which work very well and also stop where we ask the driver. We believe that to take advantage of the trip to Southeast Asia it is essential to take a boat. For example, by the Mekong River in Laos. It is a unique experience to see the sunrise over the river while going through rural towns.

Check the information with more than one person

Another recommendation is to ask for several opinions regarding monuments. It is possible that some sellers tell us that a monument is closed when it is not. That way, we may choose another tourist activity of the company in question. Unfortunately, this happens in every country in the world and Southeast Asia is no exception.

Bargaining in Southeast Asia

Bargaining is a way of life when trading in Southeast Asia. The sooner we learn the arts of bargaining, the better. It is important not to go over it because it is a very fun ritual if it is done with grace. Also, for being tourists, sellers will always give us a very high price taking for granted that we will bargain.

Talk to the local people

According to our experience and that of thousands of travelers, locals are very kind and gentle with tourists. If we spend some time talking to them we will discover more secrets of the country than ever will do with a tourist guide. If they like us, they will share with us a meal or they will invite us to their houses to show us their appreciation.

Well, you already have a fairly extensive guide to travel to Southeast Asia. Now you only need the ticket… If you have any questions or comments, write us.

How has an international song festival like Eurovision become one of the events of the year? Let’s briefly review its story.

After the fateful Second World War the European powers worked together for peace. It was then thought that a television festival would be the best of the ambassadors of this new united Europe. For this reason, a television network was created whose main task would be to organize the festival.

In the beginning, the ‘Big Five’ along with the countries in western Europe participated. The big Five are Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. As the years have passed the number of participants has risen to 41.

The festival is summarized in two major events, the semi final, splitted in two days, and the final. Only the countries that have gone through a first filter, in addition to the Big Five and the host country, arrive at the semi final. In the final the 35 winners face each other in a musical battle in which the jury of all Europe and the judges vote.

In this edition of Eurovision 2019, the score of each artist in ascending order will be made public for the first time, until finishing with the winner.

The winner is then announced and rewarded with a crystal microphone. Also, with a promise of success in his or her artistic career. Usually, his/her country is the host country for the event the following year.

Buying tickets for the venue is a difficult task, especially for attending the final. The first round of tickets are sold, though.

In the upcoming months the organization will sell the rest of them. Everything is on the free Eurovision app. that is available for free for iOS and Android.

Eurovision 2019 will be officially held at the Tel Aviv Convention Center Arena.

However, throughout the city we can enjoy screens, events and music as in the Eurovision villa, in the Charles Clore park. The introduction of the artists will be in the Habima square. For the biggest fans, the Euroclub and Euro Fan Cafe clubs will offer special related events.

Tel Aviv is one of the most avant-garde and eclectic cities in Asia, with influences from Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. It has a modernist and vibrant atmosphere, even hipster in many neighborhoods such as Neve Tzedek. There it is common to get lost among cafes, pubs, art galleries and cozy bookstores.

Once we walk and chill a bit, we can enjoy an exciting nightlife with travelers from all countries to celebrate our arrival to Eurovision.

During the day, it is necessary to visit the White City, a set of streets with light colored buildings and architecture of the Bauhaus. That is a German architectural school that the Jews who resided in the country before the world war brought to their new home in Israel.

As a particularity, these are slightly different from their brothers in Europe. They have more terraces and fewer windows to adapt to the tremendous heat of Israel. We can go to the neighborhood from Allenby Street or from Gvirol Street.

Continuing through the white neighborhood to the east, we will reach the Mediterranean coast, where we can take a bath to cool off after our tour. This area, which also houses the marina, is a vibrant and commercial area, full of cafes, souvenir stalls and, of course, beaches.

Another thing that we can not miss in our trip to Eurovision in Tel Aviv is a walk through the historic center, Jaffa’s Old City. There we can visit the flea market and the old alleys of the city. In addition, the Rabat square is one of the neuralgic zones of the Israeli capital.

Finally, if you are in Tel Aviv you can not miss an excursion to the ancient city of Jerusalem, you will feel in another world completely.

Epic mistakes of 5 travel bloggers and their travel tips to avoid them

Travel bloggers inspire us with their Instagram accounts and their adventure stories on their blogs. They show us spectacular videos and offer us travel tips for unforgettable journeys. But thanks to their experiences they also offer us the funniest stories about the epic failures they have experienced as travelers. We have interviewed 5 top travel bloggers about their mistakes and setbacks, so we make sure they never happen to us!

The story of A Little Adrift has happened to many, though, and it is one of the most chilling one: running out of money in a foreign country. This is extremely stressful, especially if we are traveling alone. Take a look at her tips for international travels.

You would think the first time I allowed an ATM to eat my debit card that I would have learned my lesson, but this is an epic fail I have done twice, in two different parts of the world: Mexico and Thailand.

In many countries, ATMs release your debit card before spitting out your withdrawn cash. In some, however, your cash comes out first – and if you accidentally walk away without your card, the ATM will eat the card for your safety.

It’s a nice feature… unless you’re in a foreign country without any cash. In both cases, I immediately called my bank, which was incredibly accommodating in sending me a new card and averting my crisis. After the second time, I also always carry a backup debit card from a secondary bank, just in case!

Meandering nature on a road trip in a hipster caravan in Scandinavia seems like a travel blogger’s dream. But the dream can turn into nightmare if the caravan breaks down in the middle of nowhere. This is how the story of the couple behind Capture the Atlas started. Take a look at their travel tips for international road trips.

On our first RV trip, we wanted to tour across the Lofoten Islands fjords in search of the Northern Lights of Norway. When I first saw that old campervan in the rental office, I thought it wouldn’t make the whole trip, and I was right. The second day, after doing the 400 km that separate Lofoten from Tromso, there was no way to start the caravan, so we called the rental company quite upset to tell them the camper was too old to be rented.

When we were towed, we found out that the camper van, despite being old, used diesel, and if it was broken it would totally be our fault as we had put Gasoline taking for granted such an old model wouldn’t use Diesel.

We were literally between a rock and a hard place. If gasoline had reached the pistons, there would be no way to repair it and also, we would lose the deposit and our trip would have ended. In the waiting room, we hold-up for the technician to come out to give us the good news. Our camper was ready to continue with our Lofoten Photo Tour. From then, every time we rent a car, we ask 50 times the type of fuel it uses!

Even the most adventurous know that there are things that need to be planned in advance, and one of the most common failures in traveling is forgetting to check on your passport and Visa requirements. For many travelers the task ends just by making sure you have your passport on you. But you shouldn’t stop here, as the immigration rules of every country can vary significantly. Don’t believe it? take a look at the following epic travel mistake:

It should go without saying that your passport needs to be valid. Having said that, I do know several people who’ve tried to get on a flight with an expired passport and were then denied boarding. But another issue that travellers aren’t aware of is making sure that your passport is valid for long enough. Let’s jump into my story:

A couple of years ago I was planning a trip to Sri Lanka and decided to go to India afterwards. As I was filling out the visa for India, I realized that my passport needed to be valid for six months in order to be allowed entry. Mine was only valid for 5 months and 22 days! As I didn’t have time to renew my passport before finalizing my travel plans, India didn’t happen.

There are surprisingly a number of countries that require your passport to be valid for 6 months, so check in advance.

Some mistakes start before actually traveling. And this is why planning carefully the trip is essential even if we choose to travel in a spontaneous way. The following story explains us why we need to do some research before hitting the road:

My experience is about making sure you get a dental check up a couple of weeks before you travel. On two separate occasions I’ve failed to do this and I’ve ended up in agony while travelling.

I went to Prague to celebrate my birthday at the Christmas markets and after one day I couldn’t eat anything. Even opening my mouth to the cold air hurt. I spent the whole trip wincing and visiting pharmacies for painkillers. If it had been a longer trip I would have had to visit a dentist in Prague. But luckily it was a short trip so I could visit a dentist at home.

Then recently, in the Maldives, I cracked my tooth and had to chew on the other side of my mouth for the entire trip. Again, I was lucky enough to be heading home a few days later. But if I was on a 6 month backpacking trip I would have ended up in a dentist’s office in a foreign land where I don’t know the procedures or charges etc.

All of this could have been avoided by getting a check up a couple of weeks before the trip and if any issues were present they could have been fixed before travelling. Trust me, you don’t want toothache ruining your trip.

People say success in love means being lucky enough to find the right person at the right time. Many travel bloggers give us the same speech as a travel tip before starting an adventure: make sure the time is adequate when planning a new adventure, especially when it comes to the weather….

Even though we’ve been travelling the world almost non-stop for 10 years, we still make mistakes, and one of the most common ones is not doing enough research on places before we arrive.

This often means we either miss out on unique attractions that are a bit off the beaten path, or sometimes travel to areas in the wrong season, meaning a lot of the things we want to do may be closed. Best way to sort them out? Do your research before booking a trip!

5 Apps that will give you peace of mind on this year’s Thanksgiving

Arriving late for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving dinner can cause a significant negative start to an expected and tense day in equal parts, but the truth is that it happens very frequently. Bringing together the dispersed family throughout the country translates into almost 50 millions trips in just two days. Traffic jams, flight delays and cancellations are very common and taking them into account can help us prepare this party better.

Let your family know when you are arriving

To avoid the stress of trying to control something that is out of control, it is best to take the most of technology and share the location with the family on a private map temporarily, so they can see our path, if we are late and if we are fine during or journey.

Sharing the location in real time temporarily makes it possible to forget the noisy calls or endless conversations with the family asking what’s taking so long. It will also save you from taking risks driving and picking up the phone and having a fine.

Some apps already have this feature, and among them Wave Let’s Meet App stands out as a free app to share the live location privately between two or more people. Everyone could spot each other on the map and be ready for their arrival.  Best of all, it has a navigation GPS to go to your destination and a direct access to call an Uber. Wave also counts with a complete chat with audios. It is free and available for iOS and Android.

Driving? Know when to stop

On the road, you will feel helpful to know when you have the nearest petrol station or restaurant to visit, since like you there are many others that will leave empty fuel stocks throughout the country. It never hurts to know where to stop in case of emergency. Among all the apps to choose your stop over our route, Roadtrippers informs you about the nearer stops along the way, good to visit, to relax or to sleep. It is available for free for iOS and Android.

Recipes for Thanksgiving

Suppose you don’t cook the turkey but your family has asked you to bring a plate of food and, apart from knowing how to boil some spaghetti or unfreeze a meatloaf, you have no idea where to start. First of all we advise against trying some haute cuisine because if it is your first time it will not go out as you wish. To see simple recipes and still impress your family, look at the Big Oven application, where you will see easy recipes with the list of ingredients separately to facilitate your way to the supermarket.

Plan the menu for Thanksgiving

You may be afraid that your little brother, who also does not stand out for his culinary skills, has chosen the same dish as you. Well, don´t be. Before thinking again about cooking extravagant dishes, open the Cookpad application and share with others the recipe you are going to make. They can also share their plates and thus avoid repeating the cranberry sauce that only your grandmother will enjoy. Pepperplate application has a complete menu to plan the cooking times of all your dishes, make private and shared lists, lists of ingredients and tasks to excel in your planning and make it easier.

Share old memories

To smooth any thorny conversation you can always show a bunch of old pictures using the app Pic Collage application, a free app for iOS. It makes photo presentations, enlarge them, share and even project them on the TV screen. It also has the possibility to edit the pictures, ad stickers and fonts to explode your creativity. Everyone likes to remember with nostalgia some key moments and go back in time.

It is time to disconnect from the daily routine, work and worries and return to the family home to celebrate with the most loved ones a few days of tranquility, to catch up with the latest neighborhood gossip and above all, to savor a delicious homemade food. Enjoy it!

Apps to make a perfect road trip

Did you hear about this one? Top 5 apps for a perfect road trip

We all have an opinion about holidays. There are those who choose to go to rest or to get inspired by nature. Others prefer the beach to mitigate the heat and others love the adventures. However, for some of us, taking a perfect road trip is the best way to take the most of our vacations. Like in Thelma & Louise, it groups freedom, amazing landscapes and great anecdotes to recall.

A road trip means exploring new corners with the rhythm of country music. It also means having the patience to survive to the traffic jams and to enjoy the freedom to go wherever we want. If you are as excited as us to discover the magic of road trips, take a look at these guide with tips and apps to help you hit the road.

1. Plan your road trip in group

It is always wise to be on the same page as our friends or family when we are about to spend so many hours together in a car. There should be a conversation about the details of the road trip. To name a few, we should discuss about how many stops approximately we want to do, what kind of places we would love to visit or what activities we want to enjoy on the way. This is crucial to ensure good vibes throughout the road trip.

To plan it, we are thrilled about Road Trippers. It is an interactive road trip app that works both for desktop and for iOS, where we can create a route on a collaborative pannel. Anyone on the group can edit it and add comments, interesting spots or activities. The app also helps us decide by recommending us some hotels, stops, restaurants or routes. While helping us plan a trip, it draws our route on a map so we can organize our time better.

2. Where to refuel?

On a road trip, where to stop on the way is almost as important as what to do when we arrive to our destination. Considering the fact that we are traveling for hours, when we have a pause off the car we don´t want to arrive to a place without restaurant. Let alone a dirty toilet. It is better to have a glimpse about the nearer gas stations so we can choose wisely where to park the car.

Among all the apps that help us plan better our perfect road trip, we love Along the Way. This app informs us about gas prices throughout our route, but also it gives us great insights from other travelers about the stops. Those reviews can point out the quality of the food available there, the bathroom characteristics and some other useful facilities such as if it has an ATM.

The 5 most beautiful beaches in the world

#1: Grace Bay, Tuks and Caicos

Named the best beach in the world by Tripadvisor travelers in the last two years, Grace Bay was announced as paradise on earth. And one of the best beaches of the world. This Caribbean beach boasts its fine white sand and crystal clear waters, even tens of meters away from the shore. But above all, it boasts calm.

And it is not only because of its beauty. Its difficult access makes it easy to find yourself completely alone. To get there, it is necessary to take several flights, from Miami or Cuba. In addition to the small flow of tourists, the beach bars or vendors are forbidden, so the only sound you’ll find is the rumor of the sea. For those of us who seek the absolute relax after several months of frenetic work, this is an ideal destination.

#2 Toyama Bay, Japan

A very beautiful beach at night can be an authentic wonder of nature at sunset. This is what happens to the Toyama beach of Japan, one of the most beautiful luminescent beaches in the world.

On this beach there is an effect of nature in which the marine organisms are illuminated as if they were small fireflies. From outside the water you can see the sea shine as if it had thousands of lights under the water. Along with this effect it is also well known for its mirages on the horizon. Simply amazing!

#3 Nungwi Beach, Tanzania

One of the best beaches in the world is placed in Tanzania. This cosmopolitan beach has a South African, Arab and Indian influence. That makes it a pure hotbed of culture, food and skin colors. The best is that, despite the tourism, it perfectly preserves its nature. We can see a long beach of fine white sand and crystal clear waters with a forest just a few feets away.

Swimming with animals is another choice to do in this beach, and it is not difficult to see crocodiles and rays along with colourful fishes all over the sea.

#4 Playa Quemada, Spain

We couldn’t make a list of the best beaches in the world only sharing ones with fine and snowy sand. In the other side of the world we can find one of the most special volcanic beaches in the world, Playa Quemada in Lanzarote. Lanzarote is one of the Canary Islands archipielago.

This beach of radiant turquoise water has black sand, as the result of the volcanic eruption thousands of years ago that shaped the island. The contrast between the clear and sunny sky, barely cloudless, the palms and green cacti, the light blue color of the water and the black sand is really overwhelming.

The best of all is that it is one of those beaches to enjoy the calmness. Its access is difficult. You can get there through off roads of stones and for that reason there is no sign of civilization, nor posts of food, nor noise, nor roads. Definitely a place to visit!

#5 Wineglass Bay, Australia

Naming one of the best beaches in the world in Australia is not a surprise. Choosing one is the big challenge though. This country has hundreds of white and toasted sand beaches that make it a wonder for surfers and bathers.

However, several bloggers highlight the beautiful combination of Wineglass Bay. This beach of intense dark blue water with waves is surrounded by brown sand and dark brown mountains. As an oasis look in the middle of the desert. On this beach adventurers can go on with hiking, climbing, biking around and finally refreshing swims. Yes, the water is freezing. A complete delight.

According to the users of the Reddit forum, it is necessary to have in mind some tips to go stargazing. The first one is thinking carefully of what we want to see precisely so we can prepare the right trip. If we intend to see the Milky Way in its splendor it is better to do it in the summer, while in winter we will have a greater vision of other thousands of interesting stars. The good thing about going in winter is that, despite the cold, mosquitoes will not chase us and we will be able to enjoy the night outdoors.

On the other hand, both the moon and the sun are the enemies of our stargazing trip, because their luminosity can dazzle many other stars. Other spectacular events such as the northern lights can also bother the views of the stars in exchange for the spectacular green lights, so in conclusion, it is better to decide what we want to see before starting our getaway.

Another recommendation is to buy binoculars because they can increase our vision of the sky. Some users affirm that they always wrap their smartphones in transparent red paper so when the look at the screen their eyes don’t adapt to light. Keep in mind that it takes around 30 minutes for your eyes to fully adapt to the night and be able to appreciate the brightness of the sky.
