Mobile World Congress has started in Barcelona stronger than ever, with more than 2000 exhibitors and 100.000 expected attendees. The light presentation of Samsung, that has introduced only two new tablets and a new version of Oculus glasses, makes it easy for the rest ;).
There are, for example, Sony Xperia Touch, a projector that allows any surface to be converted into a touchpad, unbreakable phones and the Nestle coffee maker connected to the Internet, to explore. With so many surprises around us, the World Mobile Congress has re-established itself as the most important event in the world of mobile technology, so without further delay, let’s go to the most important: which mobile phones you will carry this year in your pocket.
The beast: Sony XZ Premium
The manufacturer of sensors and lenses Sony introduced the smartphone with the highest resolution in the world: its Sony Xperia XZ Premium records video on 4K with his 19 MP camera and has a full color screen HDR 4K that will turn any of your videos into an authentic piece of art. The camera has a predictive option to take pictures automatically when it detects movement around. To process quickly such quality, it carries the most powerful processor of the moment, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, with 4GB of RAM.
The smartphone comes in black and has 5.5, inches screen, a powerful battery life and has the fastest connection to Internet in the market.
Middle class smartphones
Lenovo is attracting a big part of the cake with two new smartphones Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5, a 5.2 and a 5 inches smartphones that come with 13MP camera, high processor and a great battery life that allows you to have a 6 hours working phone after just 15 minutes of charging.
Nokia is back! The Finnish manufacturer wants to conquer us again after the famous fiasco we all know a little too well. The three new smartphones are built by its subsidiary HMD, also Finnish, and carry the latest version of Android, displayed natively on the phones, something that shows that both companies are working side by side.
Nokia brings as a gift for fans the return of the mythical 3310, the best-selling phone in history with 120 millions of terminals worldwide. The new version comes with colourful tactile screen, a simple menu to call and receive calls and of course: the snake game. Sadly, it only works with 2G frequency, specifically uses 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency, an old network that is still prevalent in most of Europe and Asia but does not work in the US, Canada, South America and Central America.
Do you want to have fun for a while without thinking about the multiple everyday problems? Forget for a moment the social differences, political problems and feel the joy of meeting new people? What you should do is to go celebrate the carnival! We have shortlisted the best options to offer you a getaway and enjoy the arrival of spring with your friends.
Carnival of Rio de Janeiro
Carnival was taken by the Portuguese to Brazil in the middle ages. It was a popular party of polkas and waltzes over the first years. However, the African influence in the Brazilian culture and the birth of samba as a popular dance have made the Brazilian carnival an unique blend of artistic styles, dances and percussion instruments that can not be compared to other party places in the world. This carnival is the most crowded, therefore it takes place in several districts of the city simultaneously. It culminates with a contest of sambas of the best schools in the world in which they reward both the fantasy and the design of the carriages and parades.
The carnival lasts for 4 days, although parallel celebrations can be seen throughout the whole month. What you need to do is book the tickets in advance and if you feel ready, sign up to dress up and dance with the locals, they are glad to involve participants. Ipanema, Santa Teresa and Copacabana are the places to be!
Carnival of Venice
Hiding under a mask and dancing with strangers to the sound of seventeenth-century music is one of the features of the most picturesque and magical festival of all carnivals. The Italian rogue spirit can be seen in the numerous shows that are held in the city and over its canals. Often dealing with social issues, politics and the stars of the moment with a mocking and irreverent touch. Wearing masks once a year allows people to forget social classes and immerse themselves into society. A baker could dance with a beautiful noblewoman or with his neighbour, without ever revealing his real identity.
The Carnival of Venice this 2017 begins on February 18 and ends on February 24. All you need is a mask from a craft shop, a costume and start your tour around the square of San Marcos, from where most of the shows begin. At night you can join one of the numerous dances and on Sunday, February 26 you can not miss the eagle flight.
Carnival of Rumšiškės
Rumšiškės is one of the most peculiar carnivals in the world, as it is celebrated in a winter climate, surrounded by a blanket of white snow in Lithuania. It is a very sportive holiday in which you can see people from all over the world bathing in icy lakes, doing canoeing or ice skating near the city hall, the main venue for carnival shows. Its parades and horse-drawn sleigh rides are famous in eastern Europe and it culminates firing a giant witch to celebrate the end of the Winter. All you need to carry on is a good winter coat, a costume and enjoy the delicious pancakes and hot wine to cope with coldness. It starts on the 20th of February and finishes the next 28th.
Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Latin rhythms can only be felt in the Canary Islands and Tenerife is the cradle of carnival in this part of the world. We can see handcrafted costumes, mockery of public figures and shows that do not care about anybody’s sex or age.
All you need is a swimming suit to enjoy the beach in the morning and several costumes to participate in the various competitions that take place during carnivals. You can meet people from all over the world and also mix with the locals, well known around the world for their sympathy.
Carnival of Goa
The only region of India that celebrates carnival is the city of Goa, and it does it all over. To this party of pagan origin and later Christian is added the Indian tradition for the celebrations in group, the dances and the colourful shows. The spectacular scenery, the beach and the climate of the city make it possible to stay almost all day in the street enjoying the outdoor activities. String instruments such as guitar and percussion set a fast and lively rhythm during the days of the party. It is a city that smells like curry, freshly caught fish and the local liquor, Feni.
People are delighted to have tourists joining them and you do not need any tickets or presentation, just your desire to enter to learn to dance. The only thing you need is to book the accommodation with advance because it is a very busy city. You can get a costume in one of the many local shops if you don’t know how to dress up. It begins on February 25 and ends on February 28. The main scenarios are the districts of Panjim, Mapusa, Margoa and Vasco da Gama.
If you have decided to go and your costume is supreme, your friends won’t be able to recognise you 😉 To get back together, open a Wave. 😎

Valentine‘s Day is here, again, and there are plenty of plans you can do to enjoy these very cheesy days. Whether you are single or not, let yourself be carried away by the wave of celebrations and enjoy the day in your own way. If you do not know very well what to do, here we have the most typical stories of Valentine Day to mood you up 😉
Stay at home
Love is all around at the Social Media, the city and even on your Spotify recommended list. Some people don’t enjoy this day and believe it is just another festive pushed by big corporates to increase sales. Others are single and can’t even bare the idea of leaving their houses to face all that exaggerated love all over. Actually, this year it’s just a normal Tuesday so probably you might just like the idea of being at home, cooking something delicious or ordering a pizza and watching a nice film. If you invite around some other friends who share the same feeling, you can end up having a great time. Who said love is only for couples? A good friendship will accompany you during the whole life and most of your best memories are made with friends. In fact, there are countries where 14th of February is a celebration of friendship, not relationship.
Go to a single party
Are you single? If this year you have decided to give your best and go for a night out with your single friends, Valentine’s night is perfect for meeting single people who want to have fun. There are a lot of themed parties all over the world to celebrate friendship and the singleness, maybe most of them with an idea to end the last mentioned ;). Put on the right playlist with your favorite tunes, maybe watch a Youtube tutorial about how to get ready and get the tickets for the party. Maybe you are lucky, maybe not, but chances are high to have a pretty hilarious night.
Are you ready to live a dreamy Valentine’s Day with the love of your life? If you are one of those who follow the wave and you are going to spend Valentine‘s Day with your partner, there are a few ways to have a perfect date. You booked a table in a restaurant, bought some roses and are getting ready to celebrate love. Beautiful. Although the perfect date does not exist and it is possible that you will be late as 60% of our Spanish users have reckoned. Be smart and download Wave to share your location with your partner and head to the restaurant. Even if one of you is late, you can see each other on a live map so it’s more fun and ensures that you do not miss out the evening. Or have fights 😉
At Wave we believe this is a perfect day to celebrate with the people you actually love, those who would follow you until the end of the world and those to enjoy a late conversation about every detail of your life. Making memories with the people you love is the best way to spend any night of the year, specially the one that celebrates love. Bring your people together and enjoy Valentine’s Day.
At Wave Application we love robots, however, we ran away from automatised marketing to interact with people. From the very beginning (2014), we have focused on learning from our users, from what they say they need and based on that, we have built a product that is changing the way millions of people find each other daily in more than 150 countries.
Marketers are living a golden era where technology offers us new techniques to optimize work and measure almost anything: behaviour, sales, downloads or tweets just to name but a few. This is what we call Business to Consumer Marketing. As a result of this approach, we have generic landing pages, massive promotions, flat communication on social media and with little interaction.
A few years ago and since new technologies are giving users more power to say out loud their opinions and take decisions, some of the companies, like us, are looking for new ways to interact in a friendlier way. This is what we call Human to Human marketing, H2H, a concept that makes clear that communicating with our users and understanding their feelings is essential to create an amazing product.
At Wave we have built our application based on our users’ feedback, we have developed features to improve our user experience and we enjoy talking to them day and night. Really! And it’s giving the results we were looking for! So, how can you implement H2H marketing? We listed down a couple of tips:
Are you up to date of what your customers think? Do you share the same values? Great! Then use some of them to reach out. Some brands have positioned themselves directly against Trump’s measures, such as Starbucks, that offered 10k job positions worldwide to Syrian refugees. It does not need to be a political issue, just find something that really connects you with your audience.
Connecting with people is the greatest and the most rewarding part of marketing. We love the fact that our wavers send us images from their vacations using Wave, they write comments, private messages, posts on Twitter or Facebook, questions/doubts and of course, they like the original contents that we create for each one of them. We treasure those pieces of communication, because being an app that has heavy traffic of daily active users all over the world, those are the rare moments when we can truly enjoy almost real-time interaction.
We are constantly seeking to improve the quality of our lives and take countless of decisions in order to do so. We download dating apps to find the love of our life, we download sport apps to get fit for the summer and we download language apps to have more knowledge.
If your product is great, it can be used for great things. At Wave we believe in the real moments: in making memories with our loved ones. We don’t want people to stare at their mobile phones; we want them to forget about digital relationships, arrive sooner and have the time of their lives. Need some ideas? To elevate yourself, take a quick look at the latest ads campaigns of Under Armour.
Technology is evolving super fast, sometimes it’s even scary how fast, right? We use technology basically to make our lives easier. It’s amazing how almost all our daily life is resolved by it but we still keep on calling and texting when we need to find somebody…which is more or less a daily task. We noticed there was no real solution in location app market, it was huge but orphan – so we decided to develop one and and make it a damn good, too.
So this is why Wave was created. Today, with 7 million downloads, it keeps on making it easy and fun to find your friends by sharing your live location on a map only with who you choose, when you choose. We have already facilitated 60 millions of meetings and there have been more than 260 millions of Wave sessions around the world. It’s 2017. If we are constantly moving, why should meeting up be so complicated?
Here’s why Wave rocks so hard:
You choose when. You choose with who
We believe in privacy. We believe you don’t want to be located by everybody, just by the people you choose, when you choose. This is why Wave works by request. This is why Wave cannot be misused.
There was no technology good enough available, so we built one from a scratch. We are very proud about our “housemade” cutting-edge technology that delivers dynamic, real-time and private maps like no other solution in the market.
We don’t mess with privacy but we sure don’t mess with security either. Our technology is encrypted using SSL and securely distributed using Amazon’s Cloudfront Edge Network on the first place. The location is sent using a token system that ensures that only the user that you are sending the location to can access the data and decrypt it. This security is used by US government to ensure safe transactions.
Design inspired by YOU
We are passionate about clean, cool and simple design! Registering in Wave takes about 10 seconds and the whole Wave experience is designed to be intuitive and fast. We don’t want you to stare at your mobile phone, we want you to share your location with your friends and have a blast in real life!
Go get social
We created not only a full chat but also Group Waves up to 10 people, so you can organize meetups to have a coffee, go skiing or go partying and share your location with the rest of the group, so you know who is slow, who is fast and chat with them in real time 😉 More social features are coming with the new version. Stay tuned!

What if you were suddenly told you have been doing it all wrong? What if you were told you don’t actually know how to brush your own teeth? Or do your own grocery shopping?
AI is no longer a word coming from a Sci-Fi film, it is going to be part of your daily life, an inseparable friend that will help you achieve the simplest of the tasks and a help that will change the way you interact with search engines. Here is why AI is going to be a part of your life in 2017:
Echo Dot with Alexa
Alexa is the new voice-recognition assistant developed by Amazon, but instead of being placed on your mobile device, like Siri or Google Now, Alexa lives in Echo, a small device that is plugged at home and stays there permanently to listen to all of your requests. Ask it, for example, to order the grocery only by saying it in your living room, and Alexa will connect directly to your Amazon Prime account and make the order effective.
However, this is only the beginning, as Amazon introduced the second version of Echo and the new apps two weeks ago at CES. Its operative system Alexa has already partnered with more than 300 apps such as games or lightning controlling, allowing you to control even more things at home.
This smart device that you use at least twice a day will provide you with daily or weekly reports based on your habits to help you improve your technique. “Raw data from the sensors runs through the processor, enabling the system to learn your habits and refine accuracy the more it’s used”, according to its CEO Serval, as BusinessWire has noted. The toothbush, created by Kolebree is connected to a mobile app through bluetooth and it was one of the most original devices displayed at CES.
Sleep Number 360
Do you ever think that you spend around 30% of your life sleeping? Then considering a smart bed might be better choice than the new iPad. As recent studies reveal more about the processes we go through while we sleep, the new technologies are using this knowledge to improve your sleep, such as raising or decreasing the temperature of the mattress or inflate or deflate some parts of it to adjust your position. What is really new about Smart Number 360 is that the bed learns your habits and adapts its structure to your needs without even having to use the app. One example shown at CES 2017 is that the bed knows when you snore and raises a bit your head by inflating the mattress, however if you keep on snoring, the smart bed will find other ways to make it lower day by day by inflating or deflating the bed.
It is not only the cutest robot we have seen at CES, but Kuri has also stolen the show by showing us all the features displayed on Echo or Google Home inside a mobile robot. Kuri’s wheels will follow your wherever you go, take your selfies for you, record the videos when you ask for it, and commit some simple tasks such as turning on the lights, playing that playlist you really want to listen to and reply to your daily questions about the weather or traffic.
While more and more companies are using AI and voice- recognition to build up new assistants, the need for being different is bringing us the chance to choose among a cute robot, an app on a mobile phone, a personalized device or a smart appliance to help us deal with our busy lives. Which one would would you choose? Or is the world going too fast in your opinion?
Drop us a line, we are always happy to hear from you!
