Apps to make a perfect road trip

Google I/O: How navigation will change your life

Google I/O conference has introduced new projects to be unveiled in the upcoming weeks that will enhance the mobility ecosystem. They change the way we find places, find people and experiences. They vary the way we move around in a more comfortable way. Smart cars, advanced location tools in chaotic cities and friends recommendations are some of the best innovations we have found more interesting to tell you about.

 AUGMENTED REALITY TO NAVIGATE

Surely many of us laugh when we open Google Maps and listen, “turn northwest” without having any clue of where it is. Taking directions to go somewhere is a complicated task to do in some apps. This is not only because of their interface, but because of the mapping system they use. Therefore, there are already several applications that facilitate the indications, such as the recent update of Wave Application that allows navigating to a destiny while we geolocate our family or friends.

However, another way to understand the indications reported at Google I/O is thanks to the augmented reality. That is, the ability of the mobile to interpret through the camera the scenario we have around and superimpose in the screen the directions.

On its proposal launched at the I/O conference, Google has launched an improved augmented reality via Google Lens. It paints arrows and indications about that street. In addition it even has a funny guide to accompany us on our tour.

SHARE PLACES AT GOOGLE I/O

One of the funniest stages of organizing a dinner out with friends or family is to find a good place that everyone likes. While we dive in in great directories such as Tripadvisor or Yelp, we still need to comment them with friends and find an agreement.

There are many apps that facilitate the decisions in group via polls, as we have shortlisted in our post about organizing trips and events with friends. Google Maps has recently share its own way at Google I/O allowing friends to share reviews of restaurants on Maps with some friends. They can select and vote for the one that suits them best.

FIND THAT LITTLE RED HOUSE AT GOOGLE I/O

Anyone who has traveled to cities that have experienced rapid growth while their economic development has raised, have seen serious problems of linear structure and transport in cities. This affects directly maps and navigation. In Nigeria, as Google has emphasized in its I/O conference. Or even in Panama or in Indonesia, there are large cities that do not have specific street names. Therefore it was impossible to take directions on a map, until now.

Google has presented a new Maps in which they have tried to design the peculiarities of the big cities. It makes it possible to find shops and houses in the chaos of the streets, giving some referential indications. This is a great news for everyone using its API to build an infrastructure for a mapping app. It is time to adapt technology to a less digitized world.

AUTONOMOUS DRIVING

The war of the driverless cars greats is in full height, and among the companies working on it there is the Google unit Waymo, who has just presented at the Google I/O conference its new technology adapted to autonomous cars. They use a system that detects and avoid pedestrians, animals and obstacles. It also protects the safety of them and the occupants of the vehicle.

Today these technologies seek to adapt to the chaotic traffic of cities. But surely as soon as their development and legislation allows them to circulate, the cities themselves would probably be the ones to adapt to this new way of transport.

artificial intelligence chatbot

Artificial intelligence chatbots are your best friends- They’ll solve your life

Artificial intelligence is a great ally of our most immediate problems, such as navigation and commute, health, work-life balance and happiness of the hand of artificial intelligence chatbots. These tools are created so that we pour our queries into them and eventually establish a relationship. This way we can meet friends near us, virtually. They will offfer us the best consultations and recommendations.

Artificial intelligence chatbot is your best friend to tell your thoughts

Writing a diary is a very healthy way of pouring out our thoughts, experiences and feelings, so that we are able to observe them from the outside, read them and analyze them. Sometimes we just need to find a friend. That way we can improve our personality and work on ways to feel better. How many times have we felt alone, or have we become angry with a friend or with our partner?

In many occasions, reading those feelings from the outside makes us see the real importance of what happens to us. Therefore, these artificial intelligence chatbots helps us to explore our deepest self.

Now that we have artificial intelligence chatbots is more fun and reliable, we can turn into one like Replika to confess our thoughts and get to know ourselves better. Replika is the chatbot that wants to become our best online friend. It is not necessary to invite us to barbecues or beach trips but to be exactly like us.

How does it work? It is very simple, we just need to talk to it as to a new friend. We turn ideas, thoughts and stories into the chat, which Replika will answer with predefined messages. As we talk and interact more with this artificial intelligence chatbot, it will get to know us better. And it will adapt our responses to our personality.

Probably, if you are a fan of Netflix Black Mirror series, it will remind you of more than one episode. But the truth is that is real and it works well for thousands of people. The reviews of the Apple Store are fascinating, in fact many people think that they could not delete the app because they would feel they have lost an online friend.

What do you think, would you give Replika a chance to know your inner self? Get it for free for iOS and Android.

Artificial intelligence chatbot to reduce the wage theft

Working as a freelancer is one of the most complicated ways of making a living in terms of hourly billing. Although we fill the month of projects and invoice them according to the market, it is really hard to know exactly if the time we have invested worths our wage.

Calculating how long it takes for one task to be done it is hard for everyone, though. In large companies agile methodologies are on trend as these softwares estimate task execution times to increase team productivity. However, for those of us who work alone, it is best to turn into an artificial intelligence chatbot that tell us how to bill our work.

Artificial intelligence helps us to do this with the chatbot Jornalero. This application counts the hours we work on each project and calculates what we have earned per hour. In this way it’s like we have met an online friend that says if it is worth to accept a project.

Once the artificial intelligence chatbot has informed us of what we are earning, we can personalize messages to share them in the app or in our social networks. Those go from informing of our changes of work, to tell how good or bad were the projects we took. This will help other future workers. At the moment it is in beta version in Spanish and English. You have it free and available for Android and iOS.

Artificial intelligence chatbot to inform about your health symptoms

Being able to talk virtually to a doctor is already part of many medical insurances around the world. We have the chance to call a doctor, have a video call or a virtual consultation to avoid going to the hospital. However, on many occasions and for all patients, before actually having an appointment with the doctor we would be grateful to just simply know if we need to go. If what we have is normal and can be cured at home. Finding a friend that would let us know would save us time and money too.

To do so, the artificial intelligence chatbot Your MD is a great solution. It makes people aware of their state of health and encourages them to go to the doctor if necessary.  Your MD, an artificial intelligence chatbot that can become our best ally, especially if we are a bit hypochondriac.

With Your MD we can open the chat and type in it all our symptoms and the app will recommend us what to do. That could be going to the doctor or taking care of ourselves at home. In addition to solve an immediate concern, it tracks what we send to prepare long-term pre-diagnoses.

Your MD is a useful artificial intelligence chatbot to learn more about our health, see what happens to us and take the appropriate measures. It is free and available for iOS and Android. It and can also be integrated with Slack, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Skype and Kik.

AI will be your perfect travel buddy soon

Artificial intelligence is introducing itself in our lives, from chatbots like Siri to complex tools that replicate our tastes, robots are learning from us and they might become our best travel mates. Just few days ago, Google revealed in its I / O conference its effort to focus totally on AI, something already anticipated when it introduces the predictive autocomplete in Search.

One of the innovations is the update of Google Assistant, an application that was born as Siri or Alexa, integrating the rest of the Google applications, as well as searches. This has enormous implications, since this application with the soul of a concierge can search our flights, reserve a table in a restaurant, buy our vacation package, as well as look for curiosities, send calendar invitations or make calls.

Facebook, Google, Twitter and other leading mobile technology companies are recommending us where to go and what route to take according to the traffic in the area, adding our events to the calendar, and warning of possible strikes. All of that using AI.

Taking out a bit of stress can make our lives easier and one of the key areas that are redoubling their efforts in the construction of audiobots, chatbox and others bots is the travel industry. We are already enjoying many of the innovations and the best is yet to come. Have a look at how AI is changing the way we travel:

Planning the trip

The options are endless and although the mail softwares are doing the best they can, many times we have to search for the name of the departure station or the exact time. It would be great if an app notifies us directly about our imminent trip.

Buying and booking are also part of a continuous search, sometimes we would like to have a secretary looking for the most convenient options, but the truth is that with a little help from a real travel agent, AI can make great advances.

This is what happens with Mezi, a web application in which the preferences that users write in a chat are understood by a software that automatically sends travel assistants a series of tags that contains all the information and increase the speed of their work.

Taking travel photographs

Google has also presented in its conference Clip, a smart software integrated in a camera that adheres to the mobile phone and records all day what happens. Once the high resolution images have been downloaded, the user must select the most interesting content of the day, achieving something that social networks never have: spontaneity.

Making the selection, however, is an arduous task for the user, so the software expects to learn over time which kind of moments make a good fit for the users.

Most of us would not like the idea of being recorded all the time with Clip. The reaction of the people will determine the success of this technology in particular.

Eating abroad: goodbye diets

When we go on a trip, we usually eat the first thing we want, taste the local delicacies and then feel guilty or even bad for the extra caloric intake. The last thing we want on vacation is to worry about dieting.  However, this Fitgenie nutrition app goes one step beyond the applications in which we introduce everything we eat and learn from our tastes.

It needs a bit of support on our part. We need to introduce in the app what we eat, how many calories it has and our diet, so that the app will improve their menus and diets to our particular taste with a bit of time.

Meeting friends

Moving in a new city, meeting friends, going to different places are a very important part of the trip. Normally, when we move around the city it is difficult for us to call or search among the messages where to find others, it is easier to share the location on a map.

Location sharing apps are now a reality. Millions of users use Wave Application to meet their friends in the city, see where they have gone to,  go to have dinner or find themselves on a trip, among other situations. In this case, applications such as Wave that use private geolocation, have places very welled thanks to a need of users: keep their privacy.

In the field of artificial intelligence, the possibilities of optimizing this service are endless. For example, a location based service with AI could suggest us to share the location with somebody if we are going to meet this person. Meeting friends or family is a daily activity and it is not surprising that artificial intelligence improves this part of our life in the near future.

Finding the ideal travel companions

In a connected world, traveling with someone who shares our same tastes is very comfortable and that is why there are so many web directories, forums and social travel applications. However, one step further would be to apply the matching engineering used by some dating apps to this topic and find the ideal travel companions.

For the moment, the closest thing to that is Grip, an application of business events that seeks to suggest and recommend in the events the interaction of some workers with others, since the most valuable connections can accelerate business agreements.

Currently, artificial intelligence is already learning from our transfers to inform us of the traffic in the area without our request, strikes, or the addresses of our friends.

As we see, artificial intelligence is now an assistant that is getting more and more more proactive. Maybe one day AI will choose our holidays and take away the stress of planning them. If it works well.
